The culture, customs and traditions of Philippines are deeply influenced by its colonized past.

Philippines Culture, The Spanish colonization of the Philippines lasted for more than 350 years, thus there is a significant presence of Spanish and Mexican influence in many facets of the Filipino culture.

The Filipino language, more commonly known as Tagalog, contains many borrowed Spanish words.

Most of the present celebrated religious traditions are a mix of Christian, Pagan and other local religious rites.

The Philippines is a mixed society, both Singular and Plural in form.

Although a singular nation, it is plural both geographically and culturally.

The nation is divided between Christians, Muslims, and other religious ethno-linguistic groups;

between urban and rural people; between upland and lowland people; and between the rich and the poor.

Some 80 percent of the population is Catholic,.

About 15 percent is Moslem and these people can be found basically in Mindanao.

The rest of the population is made up mostly of smaller Christian denominations and Buddhist.

Weaving is popular in the northern mountain Philippines.

Pottery was also common in pre-Hispanic societies.

Ornate carvings are found in the southern Philippine islands.

The national language of Philippines is Pilipino, which is based on the language of Tagalog, although there are at least one or two dialects spoken in every region.

English is both spoken and understood throughout the country, especially in business negotiations and in the government.

Hokkien, Cantonese and Mandarin are spoken by older members of the Filipino-Chinese community.

Manila is the capital city . Luzon in the north and Mindanao in the south are the other major provinces of the Philippines.

Major portions of this country are long beaches on the one hand, and mountainous terrain on the other; adorned with spectacular landscape and breathtakingly beautiful scenery.
