after the first Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tunku Rahman
National Park, Sabah, Tunku Rahman National Park, Sabah,
spans an area of 4929 hectares and encompasses the five
islands of Pulau Gaya, Pulau Manukan, Pulau Mamutik,
Pulau Sapi and Pulau Sulug.
Besides the scenic beauty
and the clear waters that are the predominant characteristic
of all the islands, the easy accessibility of this place
also plays a key role in making it a hot favorite for
the divers, picnickers and the divers, picnickers.
In Tunku Rahman National Park, Sabah, the Pulau Gaya
Island has a dense growth of trees belonging to the
Dipterocarpaceae family.
It also contains mangrove swamps
which prevents the coast from being eroded away. The
mangrove swamps are also supports marine life breeding.
The trails are fringed by the luxuriant growth of false
bracken fern.
As far as the other islands are concerned,
secondary vegetation has taken the place of the original
vegetation. Pandan and Pine-like aru can be commonly
spotted. In some places the cycads are found clinging
to the rocky cliffs.
In Tunku Rahman National Park, Sabah, though you won't
come across large animals, yet the presence of small
mammals like the long-tailed macaque, monitor lizards,
bearded pigs and pangolins, won't disappoint you.
The
feathered friends that are sighted here are white bellied
sea eagle, pied hornbill, green heron, and sunbirds.
Pigeons and the wood sallows does not frequent the park.
The Great Crested Terns visits this place en route to
their migration.
The coral reefs of the Tunku Rahman
National Park, Sabah, are inhabited by some of the most
diverse type of marine life that includes the turtles,
worms, sponges, sea serpents, molluses, hard corals,
fishes, echinoderms and crustaceans.
The Malaysia Tunku Abdul Rahman National Park, with a total area of 4929 hectares, consists of five unspoilt islands off the coast of Kota Kinabalu and the reefs in between.
The islands are only a short boat ride from downtown Kota Kinabalu and have some of the better beaches in Sabah. Of the five islands, only Manukan and Mamutik have accomodation.
