Sepilok Orang Utan Sanctuary, Perak, is situated in eastern Malaysia on the Sabah Island. The sanctuary was set up as a rehabilitation center for the baby orang utans who had either been orphaned or have been delivered from lumbering sites, plantations and from being exterminated by the illegal hunters. Since its inception in 1964, Sepilok Orang Utan Sanctuary, Perak, has continued to train the orang utans to survive on their own after which they are set free. They are lovingly taught to climb, swing, identify and scrounge to feed themselves. It is a sort of an introductory crash course that helps these creatures to make a confident re-entry into the place where they belong.
Sepilok Orang Utan Sanctuary, Perak, is a popular tourist attraction in Sabah. Though many are drawn to this place by the orang utans and spend about half the day watching their antics and being amused by their mannerisms, there is certainly something more to Sepilok Orang Utan Sanctuary, Perak, that just these animals.
