Oudomxay Waterfalls
Laos receives a very high annual rainfall and its high mountain ranges and extensive river system together creates some of the most beautiful and stunning waterfalls in the world.
In fact, the largest waterfall by volume in Southeast Asia, Khone Phapeng, is located in Laos. Laotian people often use waterfalls (called tad in Lao language) for weekend getaways, picnics and family freak outs.
Oudomxay is normally an entry point to the more popular tourist destinations of Luang Namtha in the north and Luang Prabang to the south.
However, the countryside of Oudomxay offers a very good sample unseen natural beauty. Although Oudomxay does not have a national protected area, it does have some of the thickest forests in northern Laos.
The province is a good location for visiting Hmong and Khmu villages. It is also known for its natural hot springs in Muang La and some spectacular waterfalls, most of which are still untouched and undeveloped.
Situated in the northern part of Laos, sharing a small border with China, Oudomxay is your gateway to some exciting tourist spots such as Luang Namtha and Luang Prabang.
However, the unspoiled countryside offers weekend getaways and family trips. Spend your day hiking along the thick forest trails or enjoy a relaxing afternoon sitting by a waterfall.
From Oudomxay, it's quite easy for you to access the Lak-Sip-Et and Nam Kat falls. While on tour, you can visit the Hmong and Khmu villages, hidden in the hills.
The province is home to some twenty-three ethnic groups, all with their distinct cultures. This is an
excellent opportunity for culture enthusiasts to
meet the locals and learn about their traditions and
customs.
From Oudomxay, enjoy a day trip to the hot water spring at Ban Luang La. In Muang Xay, the provincial capital, you can try the tasty local cuisine and scour the markets for souvenirs and unique keepsakes.
The Nam Kat Waterfall , positioned in Oudomxay is operated by the Oudomxay travel office.
It is a provincial protected area about 20 km southeast of Oudomxay (Muang Xay or Udom Xai). It is an ideal place for day outs and picnics.
