Getting to Vientiane is not a problem, because of the fact that there is a variety of option to access that place. You can either take the aerial route, the train route or travel by bus.
Among the international airports in Laos, the Wattay International Airport, located about six kilometers west of the city of Vientiane, is the major one. Laos Airlines, Bangkok Airways, EVA Air, Thai Airways, Vietnam Airlines are major airlines that serve this airport and you can avail the services of any one of them. Another low cost option is to fly to Vientiane via Udon Thani.
If you don't want to fly, the next best option is to board the train. Thailand's State Railways have a station in Nong Khai, directly across the Mekong River from Vientiane.
Traveling by road in a bus is also a viable option. There are a number of buses that come to the Talat Sao Bus Terminal in Vientiane. You can also get around the other provinces of Laos by a bus.
