Dubai boasts variety wildlife species, so much so,
that it has now been recognized as one of the top four
destinations in the whole of the Middle East.
Hundreds of species of birds pass through, twice a
year on migration to and from Europe, Asia and the Sub-Antarctic
whilst almost hundred species breed here regularly.
Some Birds which you can look out for include Indian
Rollers, with gorgeous bright blue wings, Hoopoe (crested
head), flamingoes, and tiny green Bee-Eaters. Lizards
are very frequent and range is size from small geckos
to spiny tailed lizards and large (up to 90 cms. long)
desert monitors.
Snakes are found in all the different land habitats
and in the seas. Some are highly venomous such as the
vipers and the sea snakes, and others like the long
thin wadi racer and the sand snake are harmless. Usually
dangerous snakes have a triangular head.
Over 500 different fish species alone dwell in the
Arabian Gulf waters. Tiny colorful tropical fish can
be seen in shallow waters, and sharks, rays and jelly
fish are overflowing.
Four, possibly five of the world's seven species of
turtle are indigenous, including the Green Turtle, the
Leatherback, the Hawksbill and perhaps the Olive Ridley
turtle. Whales and dolphins and dugongs can also be
found in the waters of the Arabian Gulf.
Animal life in Dubai includes camels, horses and goats
- the traditionally domesticated animals. As far as
wildlife in Dubai is concerned, the most well-known
animals are desert fox, sand cat and falcons and Arabian
Leopards. If you are really fortunate you might catch
a glimpse of them. The diverseness of wildlife in Dubai
is a treat for your eyes. It's a paradise for wildlife
