How to Reach Limon

Puerto Limon was founded in 1870 as a port city to export bananas and grains from Costa Rica to various parts of the globe. One of the oldest cities on the continent, Puerto Limon was established in 1502 when Christopher Columbus landed here during his exploration of the New World.

It is not a very difficult job to reach Limon by air. There are many flights to Costa Rica which land at the international airport from various parts of the world. KLM, Mexicana, Air Canada, Virgin Atlantic and TACA are some of the flights to Costa Rica. A rented car from the airport can take to Limon.

It is also possible to access by road. The best way to get here from San Jose is to take the Guapiles Highway north out of the city and then turn east. It is also possible to drive along the Braullio Carrillo Highway and the old highway that passes through Turrialba and reach Limon in just two and a half hours.
