Limon was founded in 1870 as a port city to export bananas
and grains from Costa Rica to various parts of the globe.
One of the oldest cities on the continent, Puerto Limon
was established in 1502 when Christopher Columbus landed
here during his exploration of the New World.
It is not a very difficult job to reach Limon by air.
There are many flights to Costa Rica which land at the
international airport from various parts of the world.
KLM, Mexicana, Air Canada, Virgin Atlantic and TACA
are some of the flights to Costa Rica. A rented car
from the airport can take to Limon.
It is also possible to access by road. The best way
to get here from San Jose is to take the Guapiles Highway
north out of the city and then turn east. It is also
possible to drive along the Braullio Carrillo Highway
and the old highway that passes through Turrialba and
reach Limon in just two and a half hours.
