While driving to Jaco take the Panamerican Highway 1 North towards San Ramon / Puntarenas. You will go by the International airport and the way out on your right to Alajuela downtown.

Keep driving on the highway north till the first main exit on your right which has a sign that says Atenas, Orotina, Jaco, Quepos.

Take that exit and turn left right away at the stop sign. Crossover the highway and carry on towards San Mateo and then Orotina.

Aco is a must surf destination for those looking to ride the best waves Costa Rica has to offer. Every year surfers travel to Jaco from around the world for its year round quality surf.

With an annual international surfing competition, surf schools and shops, Jaco is the perfect surfing Mecca.

Playa Jaco is a great beach for both beginners and advanced surfers. It's steady stream of quality breaks and lack of rocks make it a safe start.

Down the beach near the mouth of the river is where you'll find more advanced surfers riding the faster, bigger breaks.

Once you've warmed up on Playa Jaco's breaks head to Playa Hermosa for barrel waves. Barrel waves should only be attempted by advanced surfers or you'll be fish food. The rip tide gets stronger at Playa Hermosa so you certainly shouldn't have swimmers to contend with.

As you reach Orotina proceed towards the signs to Jaco and Quepos/ Manuel Antonio National Park.
