| Costa
Rica National Parks are an endeavor to preserve
the forests of Costa Rica that was on the verge of being
effaced. The realization of the need for national parks
corresponded with the need to conserve something unique
and beautiful. At present there are about 26 national
parks that provide ample opportunity to the foreigners
and the residents of appreciating the diverse beauty
of the wondrous nature. Costa Rica National Parks are
also playing a key role protecting the soil, watersheds
and nurturing the flora and fauna, characterized by
their rarity and diversity.
Barra Honda National Park – This
national park is known for its limestone caves. Inside
some caves like the Nicoya Cave, skeletons, utensils
and ornaments have been discovered that can be traced
back to 300 BC. The Santa Anna Cave and the Terciopelo
Cave are popular for their decorative stalactite and
stalagmite formations.
Braulio Carrillo National Park –
This Park is home to 600 species of trees, over 500
species of birds and 135 species of mammals that include
the capuchin monkeys, jaguars, pumas, ocelots, deer,
pacas and raccoons. The bird watchers will surely have
a good time here along with those who simply adore the
bright colored butterflies fluttering around.
Cahuita National Park – Palm shaded
beaches, forests, marshlands and mangroves are what
characterize the Cahuita National Park. Here you will
come across animals like the pacas, coatis, tree-dwelling
sloths, armadillos, iguanas, howler and capuchin monkeys.
About 500 fish species populate the coral reefs. Exotic
bird species include Central American Curassow, caimans,
herons, Swainsons and toucans.

Manuel Antonio National Park , Juan
Castro Blanco National Park, Palo Verde National Park,
Piedras Blancas National Park, Playa Grande Marine National
Park, Poas Volcano National Park, Rincon de la Vieja
National Park, Santa Rosa National Park, Tenorio Volcano
National Park and Vicinity, Totuguero National Park,
Whale Marine National Park and Isla del Coco
National Park are also included among the
Costa Rica National Parks.
