Hiking in Chile Hiking
in Chile offers a range of treks from the desert
and Altiplano in the North, walking past wildlife such
as guanaco and flamingo; hiking through central Andes
and Lake District with volcanoes and primeval forests
of araucaria, amerce and other trees, to the glacier
valleys and mountains of the Torres del Paine and the
National parks in the south.
Tour to Chile, short walks or trekking can be arranged in the
Santiago and Pucon areas. This hiking gives experience
of the mountains at close range without the exertion
of a long trail. It is ideal for outdoor recreation,
family vacations, and camping trips.
The Hiking trips in Patagonia offer
accommodation in various levels of camping or Refugio
or top class hotel. It is highly suitable for group,
individual or family vacations. There is a
choice of
soft or hard hiking among the peaks and lakes of Patagonia
within the world heritage site of Torres Del Paine.
There are also expeditions to glaciers and opportunities
to visit remoter parts such as Tierra del Fuego and
Patagonian Argentina. Hiking or horseback riding with
expert Patagonian guides who are English speaking are
really convenient.
The Torres del Paine trek is one of the world's classic trekking routes. Breathtaking views together with glaciers, rivers, lakes, forests and abundant wildlife provides constantly changing scenery and experiences.
The full circuit, rated moderate to hard, is normally done in seven to nine days, depending on the itinerary, and covers a distance of about 80 kms. The trek is best done in an anticlockwise direction this saves the hardest sections until last and prevents the walkers from being exposed to strong head winds.
During high summer (December and January) there are 18 hours of daylight which gives plenty of time each day to enjoy the trekking and time to spare for other interests.
The park is a world biosphere reserve, with a huge variety of plant and animal species in an incredibly beautiful setting. It is certainly one of the top 5 world destinations for trekkers, ecology-lovers and the adventurous.
Snow-capped mountain peaks, cascading rivers and waterfalls, glaciers and mirrored lakes: in all respects Torres del Paine National Park deserves its reputation. And our environmentally friendly Ecocamps are really at home here.
