Corresponding to the size of France, Italy and Spain
combined; Australia's Outback Northern Territory is
delimited by Queensland, Western Australia and South
Australia. It is blessed with the profusion of natural
environments and spectacular wildlife. It is a federal
city of Australia with its capital at Darwin. Residents
of the Northern Territory are often known simply as
'Territorians'. There are many very small settlements
sprinkled across the Territory but the larger population
centers are located on the single sealed road that links
Darwin to southern Australia, the Stuart Highway, known
to locals simply as "the track".
There are a large number of Attractions located in
various regions, towns and cities within Northern Territory.
The Australian Aviation Heritage Centre offers imposing
displays of past and present aircraft as well as historical
information on the Northern Territory's aviation throughout
history. From some of the first planes in Australia
to military aircraft used during World War II, the guided
tours can take through the rich and assorted aviation
history of the Territory. The Darwin Crocodile Farm
is located just 38 kilometers south of Darwin and is
home to some 10,000 crocodiles. The crocodiles vary
in size from hatchlings just a few centimeters long
to large males over five meters in length. Most tourists
choose to visit during the twice-daily feeding time
when the large animals leave their water holes to be
hand fed by the experienced handlers. The Kakadu National
Park is a huge reserve and its international appeal
and cultural implication has led to a World Heritage
listing for the area. The Kakadu National Park covers
some 20,000 square kilometers and is one of Australia's
most sundry and stunning parks. The Darwin Botanic Gardens
are just two kilometers north of the Darwin City Centre
and covers 42 hectares. The garden has a big commitment
to local Northern Territory plants and boasts a collection
of over 400 tropical palms as well as a waterfall, walking
trails, playground, orchid farm and much more. The Museum
and Art Gallery of the Northern Territories is a distinctive
opportunity to expose the diverse history and art of
the territory and adjoining regions. Particularly notable
is the museum's extensive collection of Aboriginal art
and historical materials covering work from Arnhem Land,
Bathurst and Melville islands. Mindil beach is a popular
tourist spot, but on Thursday and Sunday nights in the
dry season families are able to visit the entertaining
beach market.
