Brian Gilligan said the group wished to show Ald. Cummings the potential of the wetlands for passive recreation and as wildlife habitat.

He added that the area "had been considerably degraded as a result of flood mitigation, industrial development and grazing.

There was a great need for planning protection to prevent further degradation….It's time we did something to protect this unique environment
